CURBOROUGH PRACTISE DAY

SATURDAY 28TH OCTOBER 2017

For about 20 years Carlton motor club has had a practise day at Curborough sprint course near Lichfield ,. In the last few years there has been a contingent from the Quantum owners club and the Historic rally car register , together with friends and other local motor clubs.

As is normal most years the weather was good particularly for the end of October .

This year the event proved another successful one for Carlton motor club. There was a nice healthy entry of cars [26 signed on ] together with a large number of second drivers .
A real variety of cars - normal road cars ; road rally spec cars ; classics ; exotics and some specials [still road legal]

Yet again I had opted to book for the full day aiming to get the earliest start and run continuous until close. During the day the route got altered a couple of times which I think went down well – it certainly tested the skills of the driver and components of the car on the first swap.

About midday the MSA appointed noise man [booked by Shenstone car club as a condition of hire ] turned up to test all cars .Initially there was one car fail and a couple without documentation but all got satisfactorily resolved and continued their day.

A big thank you to all who took advantage of the catering . For those who don't know this is booked separately to the track day . They work on a minimum turnover and expect the club booking them to make up the difference so only by usage by participants can this continue.
A second big thank you to Ian and Eddie [the flag marshals from Carlton ] without which the day wouldn't run . Thanks also to those entrants who stood in for a stint.

The only downside of the large entry [incl 2nd drivers] was the waiting time between “goes” .It was also surprising how long the queue was when the day had to close [I think some would still be there though until midnight if we'd let them].I'll be having a rethink for next year.

This year I asked all participants to complete a little survey to give feedback on the day – see summary below

James Turner , a member of the Quantum owners club , kindly took photographs of all the cars including the selection featured here.
All the photos can be seen at his website www.bostin.photography

It is likely that the 2018 event will be a similar date [after the main sprint season finishes ] so look forward to the announcement and get your entry in early .

UPDATE - Dave leadbetter has done an excellent report [with photos] on his experiences on the day as a “first timer”
